Street names in the city of Constantine represent far more than functional elements of urban navigation. As symbolic markers of space, they reflect complex historical, cultural, and political dynamics that have shaped the city over time. Partly inherited from the colonial period and subsequently redefined in the post-independence era, these odonyms illustrate processes of rupture, continuity, and national reappropriation. Through an examination of street-naming practices, this article highlights how Constantine’s urban space serves as a repository of collective memory and a tool for constructing national narratives. The study emphasizes the crucial role of odonyms in preserving urban heritage, demonstrating their ability to embed local history into everyday life while reinforcing the relationship between memory, territory, and identity

Classical Education And Religious Teaching In Byzantium
Abstract: Higher education marks a priority of the emperors who succeeded one another on the throne of the Byzantine Empire and this during most periods of its history. They knew from the beginning the importance of higher education in building a strong and lasting state. In this context, a large number of historians date the construction of the imperial university back to Constantine I the Great (306 – 337). From this highly superior institution was born a most remarkable Elite, whose members put their fine knowledge in the interest of the empire's organizations, both civil and military. It is of paramount importance to point out that higher education in Byzantium was purely secular based on classical disciplines. Concerning the teaching of herelogy, there was an institute in Constantinople independent of the imperial university. Finally, it is worth noting that this quality teaching produced eminent humanists who shone like stars in the sky of Byzantium for centuries, their brilliance also touched the sky of the West within the framework of the wave of forced immigration which brought many of this elite back to Italy during the 15th century.

Abdul Kadir Erashidi Elconstantini lived in the era of Ottoman rule in Algeria, and joined a larger capital Bailek in Alyalh. He was in one of the junctures of his life the Mufti and judge of Constantine, as well as one of the leading scientists who had a high position in the eyes of its rulers. He had gained their confidence, so they appointed him on the top jobs, and assigned him to great tasks. Further and more importantly, they opened the doors of their palaces to him so that he could disseminate his sciences. One of these important sciences was the interpretation of the Holy Qu-ran. Thus, he showed a peerless skill in this art of the Islamic Arts, through his reliance on a method that combines two schools: school of impact and school of opinion. It is also worth mentioning that he stood against the intellectual stagnation founded on imitation inhibition of any attempt for renovating. Accordingly, his views were met with criticism issued by lot of scholars of his time, who held conservative views and orientations. In fact, Erashidi was not merely a man of religion and science only, but he was a man of Holy War and struggle. He remarkably contributed to getting European invasions pushed back of his country. Hence, he took part in the army led by Salah Bey to defend the city of Algiers Elmahroussa from the Spanish attack in 1189 H / 1775 AD, and he memoralized the battle scenes in one of his poems. This research endeavors at introducing the figure of Abdul Kadir Erashidi; the Mufti, the judge and the Qu-ranic interpreter. It equally shows to the chief role that Algeria scientists played through whatever sciences they had during the Ottoman Rule. Key words: Erashidi, Constantine, the doctrine Hanafi , the Ottoman Rule, Salah Bey
