Abstract:
This research explored the use of critical thinking skills by secondary school teachers of English. It aimed to identify how these skills are introduced in the accompanying document, and to investigate their integration by teachers into their teaching practices and in so doing to determine the difficulties that hinder teachers from their integration. The research was conducted with a sample of twelve third-year English teachers who teach in secondary schools in Biskra. Data was collected through document analysis (the accompanying document and teachers’ lesson plans), classroom observation, and teachers’ questionnaires and interviews. We found that the term critical thinking skills was not clearly mentioned in the accompanying document, but indirectly refers to the levels of Bloom’s taxonomy. While critical thinking skills were used in some lesson plans, there was still discrepancy between the lesson plan content and its execution during sessions. There were some limitations associated with using these skills
استكشف هذا البحث استخدام مهارات التفكير النقدي من قبل اساتذة اللغة الإنجليزية في الثانويات. وهدف إلى تحديد كيفية تقديم هذه المهارات في الوثيقة المرافقة، والتحقق من دمج الاساتذة لهم في ممارساتهم التدريسية، وبذلك تحديد الصعوبات التي تعيق الاساتذة عن دمجهم. أُجري البحث مع عينة من اثني عشر استاذا للغة الإنجليزية الذين يدرسون في السنة الثالثة في ثانويات بسكرة. تم جمع البيانات من خلال تحليل الوثائق (الوثيقة المرافقة وخطط دروس الاساتذة)، مراقبة الفصل الدراسي، واستبيانات المعلمين والمقابلات. وجدنا أن مصطلح مهارات التفكير النقدي لم يُذكر بوضوح في الوثيقة المرافقة، ولكنه يشير بشكل غير مباشر إلى مستويات تصنيف بلوم. وعلى الرغم من استخدام مهارات التفكير النقدي في بعض خطط الدروس، إلا أنه لا يزال هناك تناقض بين محتوى خطة الدرس وتنفيذها أثناء الجلسات. وكانت هناك بعض القيود المرتبطة باستعمال هذه المهارات.
